Feel Clean and Be Clean - With Colon Cleansing

Conditions that indicate a colon detoxification might be in order include tiredness, headaches, bloating and a  host of inflammatory and other conditions that are not generally associated with a toxic bowel.

When the colon is not able to empty its contents (ideally, it should do this three times a day), toxic waste matter becomes impacted and minute particles are forced back into the blood stream. This is similar to plumbing backing up and causing a very unpleasant situation. this unpleasant situation occurs in generally 95% of the population despite the fact that we may feel healthy. Our cells and tissues have to cope with toxicity that eventually leads to conditions and illnesses.

There are hundreds of different colon cleaning products - if not thousands. And the act of purging ones colon is becoming so popular that it is fair to say that there will be a massive emergence of alternatives yet to come.

Most people have anywhere between 5 to 40 lbs of fecal substance in their colon at any given point of time, and a colon clean up is simply the act of unblocking the colon of this built-up fecal matter.

The Most Common Colon Flushing Methods:

Colon cleansing can be performed using a wide range of techniques. At one end of the spectrum, many people are advocates of the technique where you simply make changes to your diet. At the other end (excuse the pun) we have the invasive colonic irrigation (enemas/hydrotherapy) techniques that many people are not very comfortable with. In between we have laxative, herbal remediesand the oxygen-based cleansers which are growing with popularity at a staggering rate. Following is an overview of each of these 5 most popular methods.

1. Changing your Diet:
Including larger quantities of fresh fruit and steamed vegetables, as well as fiber-rich cereal and bran significantly help the colon to function correctly and can aid to flush out 'some' of the compacted matter. Adding insoluble fiber to the diet can assist, but changes in diet basically only work to scrape out the matter through the center of your clogged colon. It is not really a a colon cleanser, because it does not remove the old impacted fecal substance. It cannot really get your colon clean. It only helps to keep things moving.

2. Enemas and Hydrotherapy:
Another option in traditional treatment of an impacted bowel is to take enemas or colonic irrigation (hydrotherapy). These methods force water, herbal teas, or other medications up into the digestive tract through a tube inserted into the rectal cavity. Colonic irrigation goes farther up into the intestines than does an enema. It should be done by a licensed professional. Obviously, this is an unpleasant substance at best, but can be helpful when used in conjunction with oxygen-based colon unblocking (see below)

3. Herbal Remedies:
A herbal colon clarify involves the use of special colon unclogging herbs which aid in the cleansing of toxic build-ups in the colon. Some of the more popular herbs used in herbal colon cleaning products are: beet root, apple fiber, bentonite, slippery elm, burdock, dandelion root, peppermint leaf and goldenseal root. Herbs such as psyllium can help with constipation and to help in regularity of bowel movements, but don't offer any visible breaking down of compacted fecal material. It is the compacted fecal mass that appears to be the root cause of most colon ailments, and to get a true colon flush, this matter needs to be broken down and defecated. Other herbs such as slippery elm and apple fiber also help with regularity, but again do nothing to decrease the nasty compacted mass.

4. Laxatives:
When you embark on a colon purging program your main focus is to rid the colon of compacted fecal mass. This can be the by-product of years of sickly eating and is constantly building up. To effectively cleanse your colon, you need to blast away the compacted matter, and unfortunately laxatives just do not do the job. Sure a laxative will assist to flush the free flowing fecal substance in your colon, but it will do little or nothing to rid your colon of the compacted substance.

5. Oxygen-based Cleansers:
Many people have as much as 15 or 20 pounds of old fecal substance impacted on the walls of the colon. Fortunately, there is a way to melt away this mass from the small and large intestines as well as the

colon. A good quality oxygen based colon cleanser is one that consists of oxides and peroxides of magnesium that have been pressurized with oxygen. These chemical will release oxygen when they combine with the hydrochloric acid in your stomach. This type of colon cleanser actually turns that impacted hard matter (that has been lodged in your digestive tract for a long time) into a liquid or gas so that it can be eliminated from the body. The chemicals oxidize the mass safely and effectively. Naturally this means that the bowel movements will be watery and gaseous for a while. This is not actually diarrhea, but a result of the oxidation.

In summary, changes to your diet should always be made, before and after any colon unclogging treatment. Changes in diet will not flush your colon completely, but are necessary for ongoing colon health. Combining a sensible diet with any of the aforementioned colon cleansing methods is a positive and vital step, but you need to choose which of the other methods will aid you best in purging your bowel.
